Record Store Day FAQ

What is Record Store Day?

Record Store Day is an international holiday held every April to celebrate independent record stores and the unique culture they provide for their community. On Record Store Day, hundreds of special vinyl releases are made available exclusively to participating record stores. Many stores, including Cameron Records, take the celebration further with in-store performances, giveaways, specials offers and more. It’s the biggest party of the year! You can read more about Record Store Day on the official website

What releases are available on Record Store Day?

The special exclusive releases, often referred to as “The List” are first announced in late February. The list changes every year, usually offering unique titles across all genres. Almost anyone can find something they would love on Record Store Day! Not only are these releases only available to independent record stores, many are limited number of copies and may never be pressed again!

Where can I find “The List”?

The Record Store Day list is usually announced late February. In addition to the Record Store Day website, Cameron Records sends out the list via our mailing list, social media channels, our website and of course we have copies available in the shop.

Can I pre-order/hold Record Store Day titles?

Nope. Nada. All Record Store Day titles are first-come-first served and in person on Record Store Day. Online and phone sales for the remaining stock may be made available the following day. No titles can be pre-paid or held. We can and do ask our customers to tell us their requested titles. This helps us with our order and gives us our best chance to receive the titles you want but in no way reserves a copy for them.

What’s up with “The Pledge"?

The Pledge is a list of rules that each record store must sign to carry the exclusive Record Store Day titles. Cameron Records is proud to be a Pledge Store. This means we have agreed to act in the spirit of Record Store Day and sell the commercial Record Store Day releases to our physical customers, on Record Store Day; not to gouge them, or hold products back to sell them online. You can read the full pledge here.

What is “RSD Black Friday”?

Great question! RSD Black Friday is a secondary holiday in November the day after Thanksgiving. It’s much like Record Store Day, just on a smaller scale with fewer exclusive releases. It’s the best way to kick off the holiday shopping season! The same Record Store Day and pledge rules apply to RSD black Friday.

How does Cameron Records celebrate Record Store Day & Black Friday?

Record Store Day and Black Friday are our favorite days of the year! We open at 8 a.m. on both holidays for the exclusive releases! Throughout the day you can hear live music, enjoy local food trucks and more! It’s a blast and we invite you to be part of the fun. We recommend getting here early. Many record collectors line up outside before we open, some waiting all night!

I still have some questions. Who can I ask?
